If you want to embrace your passion for teaching kids, without having a teaching degree, listen to today’s Preschool All Stars story: Maureen Tanai was a stay at home mom who loved being home with her first child. But when she got pregnant again, right as her first was about to enter Kindergarten, she knew she couldn’t go another 5 years without being in the workforce. She wanted to contribute financially to her family, as well as set herself up for retirement. She had a passion for working with kids, but was worried that her lack of degree meant she couldn’t teach preschool. Listen in to discover how you can follow your passion, even without a teaching degree, and start your own preschool, too!
Maureen Tanai had a passion for teaching kids. She taught her own kids, but she didn’t feel confident that she could start a preschool, because she didn’t have a degree. She opened an in home daycare and after school program, and became confident in her tutoring ability. She knew she had what it takes to teach preschool, but would she really be able to get the clientele?
After moving to a new city, she had to start over from scratch. She didn’t know anyone and didn’t know how to go about getting new clients for this new model of in-home care she wanted to implement. She stumbled upon Joy and the Preschool All Stars, and discovered that she could start an online preschool.
With the help of Joy and the Preschool All Stars, Maureen has created an online school that includes individual assessments and instruction plans for each student. It’s not just limited to preschool, she teaches kids up to ten years of age. She started with just a few students, and now has 20 kids enrolled! Joy helped her figure out her marketing, so it was not eating into her profit so much, and she is now partnering with another Preschool All Star to provide spanish lessons to her students!
Maureen has plans to open up a local preschool, once her family has been vaccinated, but wants to keep growing her online preschool as well. She says the key to keep going is to “stay desperate.” Never become complacent or comfortable with where you are. Find your “Why,” as Joy likes to say, and quit making excuses.
